Jailen's Story
Jailen was born on March 3, 2011, and from the moment he entered this world, we knew there was something different about him. He was our oldest boy, with a sister just 18 months older than him, followed by two younger brothers and a younger sister who adored him. He carried his role as big brother with a quiet confidence and a patience that most adults spend a lifetime trying to learn.
Before he could even speak, he could shoot a basketball. Sports weren’t just activities for Jailen - they were part of his heartbeat. He lived and breathed basketball and football. On the court, he had fire and passion and a determination that made him a force to be reckoned with. But what made us most proud wasn’t just his talent - it was his heart. The stuff you can't teach.
Jailen was outgoing, friendly, and fiercely loyal. He had a calm nature that could steady a room. There was a depth to him, a deep understanding of people and humanity, that few ever possess in a single lifetime. He saw people. He understood them. And he loved them well.
He loved being outdoors, climbing trees, exploring, and moving through nature. So much came naturally to him, athletics, leadership, connection, but the thing that came most naturally was kindness. He was funny and warm and had a way of making everyone feel safe. His siblings looked up to him not just because he was older, but because he was steady, patient, and protective.
As his parents, we watched him grow into someone who carried both strength and gentleness at the same time. He was light and fire all in one.
Though his time with us was far too short, the impact he made will last forever. The Live Like Jailen Foundation was created to carry forward the spirit he lived with every day - passion, compassion, courage, and heart - so that other children can have the opportunities he loved so deeply.
We live like Jailen by loving big, playing hard, and showing up for others. Heart. Passion. Community.
And that is how his legacy lives on. 💙
